I've recently written a song at rockchurch that is
titled My
Heart Your Home. The lyrics go like this:
the day I yielded to
the magnificent you
is the day you fused me
with salvation
and I believe in you
so with my lips I make this
invitation to
make my heart your home
take it as your own
through my life your kingdom come
make my heart your home
today I yield again
let your Spirit wind in
breathe your breath on me
revive my fire
I still believe in you
so with my lips renew
my desire to
Now, honestly, I read this verse, John 14:23 about a
month after I wrote the song. But the lyrics are such
that it would seem I took them right from context of
this scripture. "...If anyone loves me, he will
obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will
come to him and make our home with him."
My story goes a little like this. There was an
understanding, when I finally got to the end of myself,
that I realized I was made by God for God. There was a
desire, that God would come in and reside in my life.
There was a yielding, that in order to have God in I
would need to yield, to obey. There was a transition,
of moving my 'stuff' out and moving God in. Finally,
there was fulfillment... like me and God kickin' it on
the patio with a pink lemonade, P.O.D. playin' on the
cd player in the background while our stuff's grillin'
(but not pork).
The story doesn't end there. This isn't a salvation
only message. In order for God to be all that he can be
for us, we have to continue to provide the room. Its a
continual process. Taking inventory often, making sure
we're not moving stuff back in and thereby cramping His
space. Occasionally remodeling and adding on a room now
and then. Its continuous. Daily.
When you say, "Make my heart your home," you
are saying, "I love you and I'm willing to yield to
you so that you can reside in me." And if God's
friends are as big as he, just imagine how much space
they would need to play Twister.
