"He reached down from on
high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters."
- Psalm 18:16
I simply jumped out of the pool for a few seconds to
grab my camera. It was the first time my daughter,
Shanna, then only four months old, had a little bathing
suit on. Neon green, if I recall right. Her mother
was holding her on the side of the pool and her little
feet were dangling in the water. Definitely a Kodak
moment. I followed my inclination to record that moment
on film.
Back up the scene about five minutes. The four of us,
son Shea (2), Shanna, myself and their mother, all
decided to go for a swim at a nice in-ground pool at our
apartment complex in Florida. I had dropped Shea into
one of those inner tube child thingies, where the
child's legs go down into the holes and the inner tube
holds them up in the water. He was havin' a blast
toolin' around the pool by kicking his feet.
I was manning the inner tube child thingie, while Shanna
and mom were chillin' at the side of the pool. When the
Kodak moment presented itself.... well, that's where we
began with the opening paragraph.
My eyes were fixed on the gadgets on top of the camera
to turn it on and set it up for proper exposure, yada,
yada, yada, when in my peripheral I noticed that the
inner tube thingy was at one end of the pool and I could
make out the image of my son below the water, flailing
his arms.
