"God will bless you, if you
don't give up when your faith is being tested. He will
reward you with a glorious life, just as he rewards
everyone who loves him."
- James 1:12 (CEV)
Have you ever read the small text below the temperature
on weather.com? The temperature itself is presented
with a rather large, bold font. In smaller, less
noticeable text below you'll see the words "Feels
like (insert other temperature here)."
Or if you're watching the weather man on your local news,
you may hear him say, "Folks, its 50 degrees out
there today, though because of such-n-such it feels like
45 degrees." So their equipment guages the
temperature at 50 degrees. And they report it as 50
degrees. Yet some other natural factor is weighing in
and tipping the scale. To those out in the weather, it
really feels like 45 degrees.
Quick side note, one of the factors that can change the
way the temperature feels is the wind chill factor. As
a kid I used to think the term was the "windshield
factor." I always wondered from which side of the
windshield they measured the temperature. And how fast
were they going to take the measurement. These issues
plagued me. Oi.
Question: if it is 33 degrees out but it feels like 32,
will it rain or will it snow? Does it depend on how the
clouds feel? Or does it depend on how we feel? Things
that make you go "Hmmmn."
Here's the real question, thoughwhen you check the
weather, wouldn't you rather just know WHAT IT FEELS
LIKE? I mean, isn't that the more accurate measurement,
the one we would rather gauge our outdoor activities by?
Do you really care if the weather dude's mercury is
reading 90 degrees when it "feels like" 100
due to the humidity, ehr, something? What if the
mercury doesn't "feel like" working properly?
Am I alone in this? Do I have issues?
