"...I consider everything a
loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing
Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all
things. I consider them rubbish..."
- Philippians 3:8 (NIV)
There was a pretty sarcastic joke I learned as a kid.
Can't remember exactly where I heard it, but it goes a
little somethin' like this: "You've got that far
away look. The further away you get,the better you
look." I, of course, never... ever repeated it.
Well, not audibly anyway.
My wife, Nicola, and I had the opportunity to go to Six
Flags amusement park a while ago with another couple. In
spite of the 50 degree weather and rain, we had a great
time. In fact it was even better because there were no
lines to wait through. Hardly anybody else was
desperate (or dumb) enough to brave the weather. We
zipped through all of the cool coaster rides in a few
hours.
Most of the rides leave the station and start heading up
right away. For the larger rides it is a slow climb. As
you rise up off of the ground there is time to look down
and see the rest of the amusement park, the parking lot,
the surrounding cities... OK, maybe not the surrounding
cities. Its pretty amazing and unnerving at the same
time.
One particular ride, The Ninja, is known to knock the
passengers around a bit (why do we do this to our
bodies?). Because of its reputation, Nicola did not
want to go along. She was already feeling a bit queezy
and The Ninja would have potentially put her over the
edge.... of a toilet bowl. She stayed back at the
entrance gait and I rode without her.
