"The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them."
- Psalm 145:18-19

So I'm standing in the Post Office, waiting in line to get my stuff stamped and mailed out. For some reason the Post Office is sort of like a library. Quiet. So as not to disturb the elves in the back that sort the mail I guess. I dunno.

"HELLO. YEAH... UH-HUH. WELL I'M AT THE POST OFFICE." The woman behind me was talking on her cell phone. Scared the water right out of me. Well, nearly. Either she was the one placing the call or she had the ringer set to vibrate because there was no ring. Just her, blurting out her end of the conversation, volume set on 11. Everyone in line looked up when she said, "HELLO."

I'm all... "It's like quiet in here or something, miss, and like, we were all in a nice little trance before you came in with your phone." Only in my thoughts, of course.

Despite her irreverence for the almighty Post Master, this incident just proves the growing reliance on cell phones. It used to be pagers only. The technology advanced. Now its cell phones. People are more apt to accidentally leave their wallet or spouse at home than their cell phone. Some folks don't even have a home phone anymore, just a cell phone.

As our dependence on cell phones increases, so does our frustration when we are not receiving good service. The signal relies on towers, and where there are no towers, there is no signal. And where the land has valleys, the signal is like a game of roulette. One second you may have signal, the next second you are talking to nobody on the phone. This is when you think your friends don't care about what you are saying because they have stopped responding. For a second you feel like an idiot. Then you realize you have no signal. Then you hit "end" and make it look to the car behind you like you meant to do that. But inside you are mad at the cell phone company because you not only lost signal but you looked stupid, too.
