Be Intolerant
Because Some Things are Just Stupid
Ryan Dobson
Ryan Dobson has hit the nail on the head. I'm not very impressed
with his writing style, his vernacular phrasing or the depth of
his supporting material, but his core idea is dead on. Modern
culture has decoded to accept everything and to believe nothing.
Ryan points out that you can't buy into that and be a consistent
Christian or have a witness for Him.
This book gets right to the point without a lot of introducing
it or the author. The book is as blunt as the title. At 121
ink-stained pages, it is a quick read aimed at the teenage, ADD
Jesus person and nominal Christian. The one subject that is
treated in any real depth is refuting the 'tumor' of moral
relativism. He points out what it is, how to get out of it and
how to easily point out how broken it is.
My favorite chapter is 'How to Be Intolerant - In Love', a quick
how-to for challenging the culture. He simply encourages us to
be intolerant of sin, both in our own lives and in the lives of
those we love. He starts and ends the chapter with the
importance of prayer. He also stands by the importance of being
in the Word. His suggestion to spend fifteen minutes each day in
reading Scripture and praying is pretty light weight, but even
that little bit, done consistently, will be honored by God.
If you are in your teens or early twenties, get hold of a copy
and start passing it around. Your generation needs a dose of
this kind of intolerance.
