Interview with Josh Caterer, lead singer, guitarist,
and founding member of Duvall

MDM4M: Thanks so much, Josh, for making the time for this interview. I appreciate that your schedule is busy. I know that you were formerly in the 'Smoking Popes' before your conversion. What are the main differences between then and now?

Josh C: One of the main differences between then and now is then I was drinking a lot and smoking pot and things like that, and now I'm not. I've toured with Dashboard Confessional. I'm not sure if everyone in the band is a Christian, but Chris Carraba, the lead singer, is a Christian and he sets the tone for the way the environment is going to be. There was really no alcohol backstage.

Duvall MDM4M: How did you end up with the name 'Duvall'?

Josh C:'Duvall' - The name came from my favorite movie 'The Apostle'. It came out just after I became a Christian. I was really moved by it and it inspired my faith. I named the band after Robert Duvall - because of his great performance in the movie.

MDM4M: I read that Morissey says you're the best band in America. How does that make you feel?

Josh C: - I've never seen that quote from Morissey. It would have been about the Smoking Popes, anyway because Duvall has never toured with Morissey.

MDM4M: I understand that you're involved with worship at your home church. Does that influence your music with Duvall?
