He needs someone to fight for. All too often we as men enter
marriage unaware of the task at hand, the constant battle that
is being waged. Well, this third desire shows us that God has
wired our hearts to fight this battle, fight for our beauty,
and emerge victorious. John tells us that a woman does not want
to be the adventure for us men; she desires to be a part of the
adventure.
So often as children these desires are at the forefront of who
we are. The problem is that the world around us has pushed and
squeezed us into its pattern. We have forgotten a once intense
desire and traded it in for a safe, polite, boring life. Wild
at Heart reminds us of how God created us…after Himself. Our
masculine heart is a copy of our Heavenly Fathers', just as the
feminine heart completes that copy. Sadly, the world around is
not the only one missing the heart's desire. The church has
lost it as well. John recommends taking a long hard look at a
North American church and not listening to what is said, but
seeing what you find. Your findings will show a bored man!
This book is a journey. It brings us as the reader to places
we have forgotten. It stirs emotions that we didn't know we
had. Chapter after chapter it deals with the issues that have
smothered our truly 'Wild Hearts.'
In conclusion, men, I would highly recommend this book as a must
read to any of you who are truly desiring to be modern disciples
of our Lord Jesus. He Himself demonstrated His wild heart while
here among us. I would also like to thank John Eldredge for
helping me re-discover my wild heart. Thank you, John, for your
obedience. I echo your prayer of helping men and women find
their heart, and live the life they both want…the God given
one.
