The "Well Balanced Diet" Myth & How Good Nutrition Might Make You Rich!

I've grown weary of doctors, dieticians and nutritionists claiming you can get all the vitamins and minerals your body requires from a "well balanced diet". What do they base this claim on? And what exactly is a "well balanced diet"?

The "experts" (I'm using the term loosely) usually define "well balanced" as whatever currently happens to be officially approved by the government. Here in the United States, that would be the "government food pyramid" recommending carbohydrate portions that would choke an elephant, failing to distinguish between refined fats and natural fats, and treating meat as if it's toxic.

Is that what they mean by "well balanced"?

Excuse my cynicism, but I doubt any government is capable of making scientifically sound dietary recommendations. And even if they were, the notion of a well balanced diet would remain just that - a notion; because dirt just ain't what it used to be.

You see, the cornerstone of healthy food is healthy soil. Modern agricultural practices have stripped away topsoil and sucked most of the vital minerals and microorganisms out of what little topsoil is left. The food that comes from such overworked and mineral deficient soil may fill your belly but it won't promote optimum health or longevity.

US Senate Document #264:

"The alarming fact is that foods (fruits, vegetables and grains), now being raised on millions of acres of land that no longer contain enough of certain minerals, are starving us -- no matter how much of them we eat. No man today can eat enough fruits and vegetables to supply his system with the minerals he requires for perfect health because his stomach isn't big enough to hold them... The truth is that our foods vary enormously in value, and some of them aren't worth eating as food..."

And what's really spooky is this Senate document is from 1936!

As I'm sure you can well imagine, the situation has only grown worse since then.

1992 Earth Summit statistics, showing the percentage of mineral depletion from soil during the past 100 years for various continents:

North America - 85%
South America - 76%
Asia - 76%
Africa - 74%
Europe - 72%
Australia - 55%

Even before we humans started depleting the minerals from the soil, it was difficult in many regions to obtain adequate nutrients from food. Minerals occur primarily in scattered veins across the planet. Only a very small percentage of the Earth, such as the river floodplains, are naturally blessed with mineral rich soil.
